Racism in sports

                   Racism:it's effect on Sports

Sports have long struggled with racism.
Racial discrimination has always been present in sports, from the segregated black baseball leagues to the current taunts and sarcasm directed at black athletes.

Considerable high-profile instances of racism in sports have occurred recently.

At the US Opening in 2017, a viewer referred to Serena Williams as a "monkey.". Lewis Hamilton, a Formula 1 driver, was the target of racial abuse on social media platforms in 2018. Similarly, in 2020 the Black Lives Matter movement sparked a discussion about racism in sports as players and teams spoke out against injustice.

* Boycotts of athletes: Athletes have sometimes refrained from contesting in competitions to denounce racism. For example, during the Black Power Salute at the 1968 Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists.

Despite these circumstances, the battle against discrimination in sports has made little progress too. Major League Baseball restricted the Confederate flag in its stadiums in 2020. Additionally, the NFL revealed a fresh program in 2021 to advance inclusion and diversity.

a handful of things that can  be done to fight racism:
  • Clue athletes, trainers, and fans about racial discriminationEducate athletes, coaches, and fans about racism and its impact.
  • Build guidelines and procedures to preach racism and discrimination.
  • Hold perpetrators of racism responsible.
  • Aid societies, and institutions that are working to fight racism and its consequences.

Something so pure as sports which drives human passion cannot tolerate racism, which is a serious issue. For everyone to enjoy a more equitable sporting environment, we must all work together.
